The Chief Financial Officer Role
A restaurant group Chief Financial Officer owns the numbers for the whole business: every unit's P&L, the corporate overhead, cash, debt and the plan for growth. In a multi unit hospitality company the seat is as much operational as it is financial, because the levers that move margin sit in the restaurants: food cost, labor, pricing, occupancy and new unit returns.
Day to day, the CFO runs accounting and close, builds the budget and forecast, manages banking and lender relationships, oversees tax and audit, and gives ownership and the operating team a clear, timely view of performance. The CFO also sets the controls and systems that let the company add units without losing visibility.
When ownership is planning a value event, the CFO leads the preparation: clean financials, a defensible growth story, data room readiness and the work with advisors, lenders and buyers. Equity participation is common in these seats because the CFO is central to the outcome.
Strong candidates come from VP Finance or CFO roles in multi unit restaurants, hotels or similar consumer businesses, often with a transaction or private equity chapter behind them.
