The Director of Catering Operations Role

A director of catering operations is the operating leader of a catering and events business: the people, the production, the logistics and the results behind every event.

Day to day, the role sets expectations and operating rhythm for general managers and support leaders, holds SOPs and service quality across event types, manages budgets, labor and KPIs, and partners with culinary, sales, finance and people teams.

The strongest candidates bring discipline to complex logistics, develop managers well, and stay composed and decisive through peak event periods.

Candidates usually come from director or senior manager roles in large catering, events, contract food service or multi site hospitality operations.
