The Senior Vice President and General Manager Role
A Senior Vice President and General Manager in a general contractor runs a business unit as if it were its own company: winning work, delivering it well and building the team that does both.
Day to day, the role owns the unit's P&L, leads business development and client relationships alongside preconstruction, oversees project execution and safety, and recruits and develops project executives, project managers and superintendents.
The strongest candidates have grown a market for a builder before, with a client network in healthcare, commercial or multifamily work and a record of profitable delivery.
Candidates usually come from SVP, VP or division leader roles with established general contractors and construction managers.
