The Resort General Manager Role
A general manager of a large resort and convention center leads one of the most complex businesses in hospitality: rooms, food and beverage, group and convention sales, events, engineering and a large workforce, all under one roof.
Day to day, the GM leads the executive committee, drives revenue strategy and group business, owns the P&L and the budget, holds brand standards, and represents the hotel with ownership, the brand and the community.
Strong candidates have run large, group focused hotels or resorts before and can show results for both the brand and ownership.
Candidates usually come from general manager roles at large convention or resort hotels, or from hotel manager roles at the largest properties ready for the top seat.
